UK Energy Infrastructure (UKEI) is shaping new strategic approaches to help strengthen the UK's energy resilience and support future industrial growth. Our focus centres on sustainable planning, innovative infrastructure concepts, and opportunities to repurpose existing assets to meet evolving demand.

UKEI is assessing pathways for transforming underutilised land such as former power stations and brownfield sites into modern energy ready locations. These areas have the potential to support high-capacity users and contribute to enhanced national energy security.

We are also exploring the development model of energy gateway hubs: large sites capable of delivering substantial on-site power for data centres, technology clusters, and advanced manufacturing. These hubs aim to provide scalable, resilient, and flexible energy solutions that align with long-term sustainability goals.

Through research, strategic evaluation, and engagement with stakeholders, UKEI is committed to identifying responsible opportunities that can support economic development, innovation, and the UK's wider energy transition.

Our Focus

UKEI is focused on understanding and shaping the future of the UK's energy infrastructure, with particular interest in the evolving role of CCGT assets, land redevelopment, and the integration of high-demand technologies. Our work centres on strategic insight, long-term planning, and responsible development concepts that support a resilient and sustainable energy system.

01

Future Potential of CCGT Assets

We examine how Combined Cycle Gas Turbine sites may evolve within a changing energy landscape — including opportunities for modernisation, future-fuel readiness, lifecycle considerations, and their role in supporting grid stability alongside renewable generation.

02

Redevelopment & Optimisation of Energy Land

UKEI explores pathways for repurposing underutilised land, former power stations, and brownfield sites to support emerging industrial and technology uses. This includes the strategic evaluation of land that could host energy-ready or energy-intensive developments in the future.

03

High-Demand Infrastructure & Gateway Concepts

We assess the requirements of sectors such as data centres, advanced manufacturing, and industrial operations, and how future-focused energy gateway hubs could provide scalable, resilient, and efficient power solutions. These concepts are part of a broader vision for enabling sustainable growth and modern infrastructure across the UK.
